      Need some training advice

Went to my first practice after getting released from ortho, couldn't do half the off skates exercises because it felt like the rod in my leg was going to explode out the top of my knee.

      History of injury:
June of last year I was at practice working on skills. Skates got twisted up and I ended up with a double spiral fracture of both the tibia and fibula in my left leg. They put a full rod in, from knee to ankle, plus 3 screws, one up my by knee and two down by my ankle. I was able to start half assed walking on it after 2 months. Fully walking without a limp by October, then I smacked the crap out of my leg and ended up limping again for a month. I'm now back to fully functioning, only limp when I over do it.

      Here is my problem.
I can walk, can't run or jog. I can do most of the warm up exercises as long as it doesn't including jumping or running.

      My question:
Does anyone have any advice on how to strengthen my leg to be able to handle the shock of running without feeling like the rod and top screw are going to pop out of my leg??

      Thanks

    only time will tell

go slow, do what you can, and stop if it hurts

The problem is now for the next year or two as it fully heals you are more likely to permanently injure it
    This is what i did.
I felt good so i went back to heavy squatting and screwed it up all over again

...patients if you ever want it to be back 100%....fast if you want to fuck it up

to be honest it may never come back. I had major knee surgery years ago and to this day i am not 100%
if i try to squat down on that one leg once i get past a certain point it just gives out and i fall.
    nothing can really be done.
I can run jump, live, roll etc.. just a few things i cant do and never will

I figured I'd start on the treadmill and elliptical to get the ability to jog and run back then work on lifting. Derby doesn't really require strength training as much as stamina. I'm picking up my skates this month and gonna see if its easier to do a workout on skates compared to the hardwood floor. One would think it would be easier on the joints, less impact. But my first plan is treadmill and elliptical to work on the immense pain i get from running. The ortho said my only real threat in reinjury is when I start having contact in derby again, because a rebreak of this leg would be detrimental and probably take me out for good, since they would have to completely cut open my leg to remove the rod - since most likely it would be bent inside the bone lol. I think I'm more at risk for breaking my other leg, but I don't plan on doing either, since I am planning on starting out slow and working my way back to being on the roster and probably won't see any on track action til next season. It sucks, but I know I have a lot of work to do to get back to where I was. Thanks
